What is the MyLOL Dating App?
MyLOL is the #1 teen dating app in the US, UK, and Canada and is designed for students 13-19 years old. Built-in features of MyLOL encourage users to send private messages to random strangers.
While people over 20 years old are not permitted to create an account, MyLOL makes it easy to enter another birth date, if you’re not a teen.

What is MyLOL?
- When signing up, users cannot create an account unless they input their birthday and location
- Next, users are prompted to select profiles of people from the opposite gender that “interest” them
- After that, users are asked to upload a picture from their Facebook, Instagram or computer
- Users receive credit for every time they vote on a member
- Voting on a member is based on whether or not you find them attractive
- Users also receive credit when they match with other members
- Credits are used to get “privileges,” like being able to see who has voted on their profile
- Like other social media sites, users have a news feed, a wall to post to, and private messaging
- Unlike other social media platforms, profiles on MyLOL are public
- Users can set the gender and age range of people who they would like to see
- News feeds can be filtered to show updates from friends or only people in your area

Why should parents care?

- MyLOL is a dangerous platform for students because it makes it easy for predators to anonymously target teens
- Users regularly post scandalous and inappropriate pictures
- Content on MyLOL is generally, vulgar, sexual in nature, and not suitable for teens
- Since MyLOL markets itself as a place for teens to make friends, it can be confusing for teens who are just getting access to social media to understand that the predominant use of this platform is for dating
- The website and app encourage strangers to send photos to each other
What can parents do?
- If your teen uses MyLOL, discuss the dangers of the platform and have them delete their account
- Explain the repercussions of using apps and sites like MyLOL and how easy they make it for teens to be targeted by predators
- Remind your student to never interact with strangers online
- When you’re ready for your teen to be online, teach them to keep all of their posts and pictures Light, Bright and Polite
