Sites such as Twitter and Instagram allow you to post a small bio about yourself, as well as set a profile picture, and sometimes a cover photo. These are great ways to introduce people to who you are, and also let your personality shine.My Twitter background photo is a picture I took of the Cincinnati skyline, because that is the area I am from. My bio reads, “Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, finds no home in this world of ours. KY//CA” I chose the quotation in my bio because I liked it and felt I could relate to it.

Then, I vaguely list where I am from and where I currently live. Find a way to give an accurate representation of who you are in your bio, whether it be a quote, or listing things you are involved in or like. It doesn’t have to be very detailed, but should be enough for someone looking at your profile to gain some information about you.

Everything you post on social media creates an online version and image of you. It is important to find a way to let your voice and personality come through in what you post. For me, I try to not take myself too seriously, and I try to reflect that in my posts. Additionally, have fun with it and don’t be afraid to poke fun at yourself in your posts.

Since anyone is able to see what you post if your profile is public, it is important to foster a good online image. While you should think carefully about your posts, what you post does not have to be boring. Take your hobbies or passions and center your posts around them. In my case, posts often revolve around music, food, sports, and family/friends. Living in LA, food exploration has become one of my favorite hobbies, and I love to document my food adventures through Instagram.

It is okay to post a tweet before a big rivalry game, but there is a fine line between fun rivalry and an inappropriate post. Whether it be Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, you want to maintain a level of positivity in your posts. You should also shy away from directly posting negatively about a specific person or group of people. Don’t be afraid to share your opinion and point of view, but do it in a way that is not going to be offensive to someone else.
